Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. The Lodge Alley Inn, Charleston, South Carolina, 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Charleston area destination you love, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
