Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn, Charleston, South Carolina, 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Advice for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
