Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Stunning Private Courtyard - 1 BLOCK TO KING! has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make certain damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
