Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Downtown Historic Home Close to Neighborhood Shops has 10 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
