Getting the best Charleston vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the best vacation rental in Charleston:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. *Historic District* Walk Everywhere! 4 Bedrooms! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is best for your group.
- If there's an individual Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
