How to find the best Charleston vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. *Historic District* Walk Everywhere! 4 Bedrooms! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your agreement.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
