Strategies to get the perfect rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking the rightrental:
- To start, have your group decide on date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Cooper River Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, email the property management company before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your trip.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
