Tips to get the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. To book the largest rental within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Choosing the best rental:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Red Robin House
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before booking the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
