Vacation rental home tips:
Getting the best value:
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose the perfectvacation home:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. ?The Inns ? Stylish 9BR/6BA Downtown Home! has 9 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you love, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
