How to book the best Charleston rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- Select your dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautiful Historic Charleston Home has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
