Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your group agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Beautiful Historic Charleston Home has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you crave, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. message the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
