Booking the best rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Luxurious Retreat - NEAR King - Amazing Balconies! has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area beach you long to visit, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
