Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston rental experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- First, have your family agree to dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. 7 Bedrooms - Extensive Remodel on King Street! has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
