Tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Maison de Jasmine
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If not, email the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
