Tricks and tips for getting the perfect rental experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing the bestrental:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Maison de Jasmine
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
