Strategies to get the best rental home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Book your Charleston area vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the right Charleston area rental:

  • Begin by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Sleeps 20
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you long to visit, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
