Charleston area vacation rental home tips:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Multi-Unit Rental has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
