Tricks and tips to get the very best rental home experience:

When to reserve a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Mint Julep
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
