Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and pick a perfectrental home:
- Start by having your family commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Luxurious Villa with Ocean Views and Community Pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
