Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area vacation property experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Oceanfront 2nd Floor Condo with Community Pool & Fishing Pier! Great location! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. text the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
