Tips and Tricks to get the best rental experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Isle of Palms. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking the bestrental home:
- First, have your group decide on date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront 2nd Floor Condo with Community Pool & Fishing Pier! Best spot for a Beach Getaway! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you simply love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
