Strategies to get the perfect Isle of Palms rental experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Isle of Palms rental home:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront 2nd Floor Condo with Community Pool & Fishing Pier! Great location! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
