Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick your prefect Charleston area vacation home:
- First, have your family decide on dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. \"406a Shipwatch\" Wild Dunes 3 BR Penthouse sleeps 7 has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
