Our top Isle of Palms rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Lumie by AvantStay
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If not, email the property manager before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
