Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in Isle of Palms. Book your Charleston area vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Luxe Interiors, Private Plunge Pool, Inside Wild Dunes Resort has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you crave, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
