Finding the best rental experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the largest rental for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. 16 29th Avenue
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
