Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Kiawah Suite at 360 King has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
