Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. To book the best vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Rosemary House
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
