Our top Charleston vacation rental tips:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- To start, have your group select trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Old King Street Mood 4 Bedroom has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you crave, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
