Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

Getting the best value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Incredible Beach Front Home w\/ Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
