Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Charleston area rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting the perfect vacation home:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Oceanfront Top Floor Villa, Large Balcony, & Community Pool in Wild Dunes! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
