How to find the best Charleston area rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to select the perfect rental:
- Start by having your family commit to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Seascapes~ 714 Ocean Blvd. Charming, Ocean Front, Private Pool has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
