Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the best Charleston area rental home:
- First, have your family decide on a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanside Shipwatch Villa, Steps to the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
