Our top Charleston area rental home tips:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Goldleaf Suite at 360 King has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
