Strategies for getting the perfect Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Isle of Palms. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Derby by AvantStay
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
