How to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family select dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Private Pool, Ocean views, 2-blocks to beach has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
