Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston area rental experience:
Getting the best value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the best vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Lodge Alley Inn, 2 Bedroom Townhouse has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
