How to find the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the best vacation home in Charleston:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Waterfront Gem on James Island! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
