Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Isle of Palms vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
