How to book the best Charleston area rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental home:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ultimate IOP Vacation! 6BR with Pool! NEW REBUILD! Steps to the beach! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
