Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:
When to visit Isle of Palms & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental:
- Start by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful Ocean Views w\/ Pool and Elevator! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
