Tips for getting the perfect Charleston area rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Charleston area rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking a perfectrental home:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautiful Ocean Views w\/ Pool and Elevator! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
