How to get the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • To get the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightvacation home:

  • To start, have your family select the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Sea Shell by AvantStay
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area destination you simply love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.

During your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
