Strategies to get the best rental experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Isle of Palms. To get the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Well-Appointed Villa Overlooking 6th Green on the Links Ocean Golf Course! Pool & Pickleball Courts! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
