Charleston area rental home booking tips:

When to visit Isle of Palms & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront 3BR, 3BTH, 2nd Floor, Beach Front IOP has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Tips for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
