Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and pick the rightrental:

  • To start, have your group choose vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Beautiful Downtown Home with Charleston Porches has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

Know before you go:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
