Charleston vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To get the best rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- First and foremost, have your family select a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 6 Bedroom - Modern Elegance - Heart of Charleston has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
