Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing a perfect Charleston area rental:

  • Choose a group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Manor by Guesthouse Charleston- Grand Immaculately Restored Historic Home in Downtown Charleston has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you simply love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your invoice.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
