Vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose yourrental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Renovated - 3 Bed Home - 10 Minutes to Downtown! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Have a great stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
