Our top Vacation rental tips:

When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the perfect vacation home in Charleston:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Suite Retreat on Saint Philip > Walk Everywhere! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
