Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- To get the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Historic Downtown Home - Luxury Stay On St Philip has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you long to visit, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
