Strategies to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your Charleston area vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. OCEANFRONT Wild Dunes- Perfect for Relaxing w/ the Ocean Breeze has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the host right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
