Charleston area rental home tips:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and choosing yourrental:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. ?Modern Downtown Home w/Balcony, Yard + Free Parking? has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before booking the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
