Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick the best Charleston area rental:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Billfish Bungalow - 4 mi to downtown & 6 mi beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
