Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Location! Minutes to Downtown and Folly Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your family.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you crave, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
