Charleston rental property booking tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book your prefect Charleston area rental:
- To start, have your group select a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Family Paradise with Pool and Firepit has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
