Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick the rightrental home:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Cozy Furnished James Island home 3- Miles to Folly, 4- Downtown, NO SUBLETS\n\n\n has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
