Charleston rental home tips:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose the best rental:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. A 30 Day Rental-10 Minute Hop To Folly or Downtown! Perfect Snow Bird Retreat! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
