Our top Rental home tips:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Downtown Charleston Heated Pool - 1 Block to King has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
- If there's an individual Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
