Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try changing your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. THE INNS - 10 BR Downtown Home - Amazing Location! has 10 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. text the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
